Bone density test

The FDX Visionary-DR is an advanced system that provides fast and excellent image quality and enables the examination of the mineral content of bones, suitable even for full-body mapping.

FDX Visionary DR bone density scan

What is a DEXA bone density test?

The DEXA (Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry) bone density test is a non-invasive, painless procedure that measures the mineral content of bones. This examination helps diagnose osteoporosis and assess the risk of bone fractures. The FDX Visionary-DR system provides an extremely accurate picture of the condition of the bones, allowing for quick and reliable diagnosis.

In which cases is a DEXA test recommended?

A DEXA test is particularly recommended if:

• Women who are post-menopausal, as hormonal changes may decrease bone density.

• Men over the age of 60 who have an increased risk of osteoporosis.

• After a bone fracture, especially if it was the result of a minor trauma.

• Patients undergoing long-term steroid treatment, since these medications can reduce the mineral content of the bones.

• There is a family history of osteoporosis or bone fractures.

How does the examination take place?

The DEXA examination is extremely simple and quick:

1. Preparation: No special preparation is needed before the examination. However, it is advisable to wear loose, comfortable clothing and avoid metal jewelry, as these can affect the measurement.

2. Procedure: The patient lies on a special table while the device scans the body with a low-dose X-ray, most commonly the lumbar spine and the hip. The examination generally takes 10-15 minutes.

3. Results: A few hours after the examination, you will receive the results by email, which will allow your physician to determine the next steps.

How should you prepare for the examination?

• Food intake: You may eat and drink before the examination, but it's advisable to avoid taking calcium-containing dietary supplements 24 hours before the test.

• Clothing: Wear comfortable, loose clothing free of metal parts (buttons, zippers, etc.).

• Disclosure: If you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy, be sure to inform your doctor or the specialist performing the examination, as X-ray radiation can be harmful to the fetus.

Contraindications

The DEXA test is generally safe, but in certain cases it is not recommended:

• During pregnancy because of the X-ray radiation.

• After the use of large amounts of barium or contrast agents, as these can influence the results of the examination.

Why is bone density testing important?

Measuring bone density is crucial for the early detection and treatment of osteoporosis. Diagnosing in time can help avoid more serious fractures and improve quality of life.

The DEXA examination performed with the FDX Visionary-DR device not only allows for diagnosis but also enables monitoring changes in bone and muscle mass, which is especially important in sports medicine and body weight management(full body composition examination).

We can perform the examinations for individuals with a maximum body weight of 120 kg.
